Violet Voss recently launched 20-pan eye shadow palettes for Summer 2016. This Holy Grail Palette is a warm eye shadow palette and has a retail value of US$120 if bought separately. I managed to snag this up during their second pre-sale in early March at a discounted price of US$42. It is restocked today, April 1st 2016 at the stated pricing of US$52. By the way, this is a Limited Edition palette, so try to get this before it goes for twice or triple the price on Amazon or Ebay.

A little tip for the launch, their website kept showing that it is 'sold out' at the check out page while I was using my laptop. I tried refreshing and it did not work. So I ended up purchasing it on my iPhone and it worked. Smooth check out process and their website did not crash once. If you have trouble checking out, just switch around with your computer and mobile.

Sneak peak of an eye look I did with this palette. More details and photos below.

Item came bubbled wrapped both inside and outside the box. Very well protected.

The actual palette is very slim and has the NARS kind of rubber texture. Feels extra fancy, though it might get dirty real fast.

Here's a summary of the swatches I did. They swatch beautifully and the matte shades are so nicely pigmented with no fall out at all! Very impressed.

I have seen reviews saying that these are cheaply made with bad pigmentation but I really did not experience anything like that with these shadows! They aren't as soft as Anastasia shadows but it blends well and has nice pigmentation, at least the one that I received is awesome.

20 cruelty free full sized pans (1.8g each) with Mattes, Metals and Satin shades.

Crystal, Ploof, Thanks A Latte Transition, Hashtag, Awesome Sauce, Bestie, Toffee, Chill, How U Doin, Bat My Eyes, Cool Beans, R U Kitten Me, So Jelly, On Fleek, Brownie Points, Teddy Bear, Glamping, Cranberry Splash, Wine N Dine

Some close up shots.

The swatches are all taken with flash and under sunlight. How cute are the names though?!

ROW 1

Crystal is a shimmery pearl highlight shade.

Ploof is a shimmery cool pink shade.

Thanks A Latte is a matte bone colour, perfect for setting and evening out the lids.

Transition is a matte warm brown blending shade.

Hashtag is a matte orange shade.

ROW 2
This row has very similar shades. Close dupes of each other. Love this row!

Awesome Sauce is a metallic gold.

Bestie is a matte neutral brown. Very similar to Transition.

Toffee is a metallic gold, a slightly more intense and deepen version of Awesome Sauce.

Chill is a shimmery gold. A toned down version of Toffee.

How U Doin is a shimmery rose golden shade.

ROW 3

Bat My Eyes is a metallic dark bronze.

Cool Beans is a metallic taupey brown shade. One of my favourites!

R U Kitten Me is a matte warm brown.

So Jelly is a satin duo chrome-ish cool toned pink.

On Fleek is a shimmery dark rose gold with more reds in it. Like a deeper version of How U Doin.

ROW 4

Brownie Points is a matte neutral deep brown.

Teddy Bear is a matte dark brown with a hint of maroon.

Glamping is shimmery burgundy shade.

Cranberry Splash is a shimmery cranberry shade. Similar to Glamping, just a hint more red.

Wine N Dine is a matte cool toned red.

This is a great palette to own and it has got to be one of my favourites. The shades are all so flattering for daily use and the quality is amazing - so smooth and easy to blend. I especially love the warm and neutral tones in this palette. In terms of value for money, the pan size is actually very generous and you get a ton of shades. I really recommend this palette.

Here's a close up of the eye look I did. It is a simple orangey golden eye look.

Transition and Hashtag in the crease and inner half of the lid.
Awesome Sauce at the base lid shade in the center, with Toffee and Cool Beans on top.
Tiny bit of Bat My Eyes on the outer corner to darken the look.

Liquid Liner - Wet n Wild MegaLiner in Black
Lashes - Violet Voss Sexy And Eye Know It

  2. Hi XieQu, i am interested i getting this palette but it'll cost me around RM240 which is pretty pricey. So just would like to know if its worth the price..i saw a review on youtube which says the pigmentation isn't there once the shadows are picked up by a brush.
But it does look good with finger swatches.
Just on the fence about this 😰

    1. Hi Ann, after conversion it is about 82SGD and that is about the same price as a Naked palette or slightly higher than any other palettes in Sephora.

I do feel that it is worth the price! I rarely reach for my Naked palettes now as the pigmentation in the Holy Grail palette so is much better. I do not have any problems with it not applying well though. Just make sure to prime your eye lids with either concealer or primer to give it a even base. But the shadows all apply beautifully on the lids without the need to wet my brush. I really recommend it :)

If you want something similar with a lower price tag, the Zoeva Nude Spectrum Eye Palette is not bad too. But the Holy Grail palette has more metallic shades that I love!

  3. Hi Xueqi,
I really love your blog posts as they're so informative to read before purchasing (:
I was wondering if there is a difference between the violetvoss hg palette and the anastasia bh modern renaissance palette? The shades seem similar, what about the pigmentation/lasting power/fall out/texture? Thank you so much in advance!

    1. Hi Stella, thanks for your lovely comment! It means so much to me :) I would say the ABH one has a softer texture and blends better than HG. However if you want more shades selection, go for HG! I do think Violet Voss shadows are pretty good too.

If you hate fall outs, go for HG. If you want buttery, creamy, easy to blend shadows and don't mind some powder kick up, definitely the ABH xoxo

  4. Would you say that is someone has this palette, they wouldn't need to get the Lorac unzipped palette?

    1. Hard to say, as this palette has a wider shade selection with mainly berry tones. Whereas the Lorac Unzipped has more dusty rose and dark burgundy shades. They look very different on my lids :)
